“We been through every kind of rain there is. Little bitty stingin’ rain… … And sometimes rain even seemed to come straight upfrom underneath.” – Forrest Gump – Forrest Gump.
Heist Bank is a new all-day hangout opening to Paddington on Thursday 23rd June 2016. Located just off the canal in a large, light filled space, Heist Bank will specialise in wood-fired pizza, beer and fresh flowers, bringing something entirely new to the area.
First off I’d like to take a running knee to the groin of this Great British Summer. The chairs and tables outside would have been densely populated if we just had a dusting of sun instead of this dog-Sh*t weather that has almost epitomised and compounded the nations current mood. That day we had all the kinds of rain that Forrest Gump talked about.
The 6,000 square foot site has a fully stocked bar, restaurant area and the aforementioned outside seating space for 50. Inside the interior has a cool communal feel, with long bench seating, comfortable sofas, an Art Deco French foosball table and an impressive double height installation from graffiti artist Pure Evil will be a focal feature across the venue’s two floors.
I hung by the door with Annie and like a damn sniper, ambushed the cocktail waitresses who were dishing out the pizza. These press junkets bring out the worst in people. I’ve said a thousand times before, free food at a press junket is like lowering a plate of chicken drumsticks into a box full of Mogwai’s. And I don’t claim to be above them, in fact, I’m just making up the numbers.
Examples of the pizzas include:
Lamb, Preserved Lemon, Brockley Feta, Rocket £10
Smashed Peas, Courgette Ribbons, Mint, Rosary Goats Cheese, Pea Shoots £9 Cauliflower Cheese – Blue Murder, Brown Butter Béchamel, Cauliflower £10
Operating as a relaxed day to night venue, Heist Bank’s freshly made pizzas will be accompanied by a wide selection of local beer, wine and cocktails, perfect for quick lunches, post work drinks or weekend parties. Shipped straight from Italy, Heist Bank’s wood burning oven will turn out a selection of delicious pizzas featuring local cheeses, cured meats and seasonal toppings. There will also be a range of small plates on the menu including cheese curd and olive doughnuts alongside light, summery snacks such as watermelon with labneh and toasted seeds. The menu will also feature large dishes such as slow-roasted lamb, steak and trout, all cooked to perfection in the wood burning oven. A Mr Whippy ice cream machine with grown-up toppings will take care of pudding.
With beer as a focus, Heist Bank will offer 12 local brews on draft, from the likes of Magic Rock, Beavertown and Siren, which will also be available to take out in Growlers. The cocktail list will be a ten strong menu of classics using high quality ingredients. Continuing the floral theme, beer mats and take-out pizza boxes will be illustrated with original floral designs by young British artists.
Examples from the cocktail menu include:
The Dark & Stormy (£9) – Goslings rum, freshly made ginger syrup and lime soda.
Scofflaw (£9) – Evan Williams bourbon, dry vermouth, lemon and pomegranate syrup. Southside Fizz (£9) – A refreshing mix of mint-infused gin with lemon served long with soda.
