In December last year I had the distinct pleasure of meeting Africa Miranda. Firstly it’s a name that makes you sit up straight when you hear it.

There’s a billion Pete’s in the world and most of them are destined to be graphic designers. Although there was a Pete Mitchell in Top Gun wasn’t there?

I digress.

Africa is a Beautypreneur, Performer, Travel Maven, Host, Black Girl Magician and an overall big ball of talent.

Anyway, I managed to cajole the Africa into a quick e-interview that I think you’ll enjoy.

Firstly tell us a little bit about yourself, what is a typical day like for you?

My days are rarely the same, but I try to start every day with a quiet moment of meditation before I open my emails and jump into social media etc. I’ve found it helps me stay more grounded throughout the day. Next I like to get in a workout. After that I start to tackle emails and spend a couple hours on social media following up on comments and setting up posts. I’m also a actress and performer so I am either headed to an audition or prepping for one.

What is your favourite social media platform to engage with your audience?

My favorite social media platform now is Instagram. It literally has everything. I can go live, share stories…all in addition to regular posts. It really has become a one stop shop.

If someone wanted to become a public figure like you, what advice would you give them?

I would ask them first “why?” Is it about attention or just being known? Or is it about what you can add to the culture and how you can help others. I always look at any opportunities I receive and ask myself how it can be of service to others.

You’ve just launched the Luminous Body Mist on your site. What are the biggest obstacles in getting a beauty brand off the ground?

The largest obstacle for me is constantly looking for new ways to get the word out about the company and my products. When you’re doing it yourself you realize just how much work it really takes. Running a business is more than just posting pretty pictures on Instagram…

What has been your most stand out press event this year?

I had 2 standout press moments last year. In April of 2017 I was featured in Vanity Fair magazine and recognized as a member of the VF500 – tastemakers and ones to watch. The second was my partnership with Kia Motors for the launch of their luxury sport coupe the Stinget for NYFW.

Which city would you like to live in and why?

I would love to live in Rio de Janeiro. It is my favorite city and I felt at home there the moment I arrived. It has all of the things I love – gorgeous beaches, music, culture, great food.

Tell us something no one else knows about you.

If I wasn’t so scared I would love to try stand up comedy.
