PO32 – POCKET OPERATOR | TEENAGE ENGINEERING
WHAT IS IT?
It’s the coolest little drum machine/bass/synthesiser sequencer in the world is what it is. I literally couldn’t put this thing down for an hour without even reading the manual.
I first caught wind of Teenage Engineering at the launch of the Volvo XC-40 in Milan. The OP-1 synth (which is their show pony) was on display, poised aloft a glass chamber like some kind of communication portal. Hello is that Jor-El? Blimey that’s a bit of luck, can you book me an Uber out of the Antartic please? (Timely 70’s Superman reference).
This brand is infectious. I felt like I’d been teleported back to my student days. I wanted to get the band back together man, where some corduroy and talk about destabilising the capitalist regime.
I think you should check out how this puppy sounds through this YouTube Tutorial. Apologies for not having a song to show you myself, I’ve lost the logins to MySpace account so thought, what’s the point.
The Teenage Engineering Pocket Operator is available through their website for 75 Euros inc Shipping
GO FORAGING | HUNTER GATHER COOK
WHAT IS IT?
I spent a couple of hours with Nick Weston from Hunter Gather Cook, and his team of woodsmen last week. They drummed up the best Korean BBQ I’ve ever had.
One chap walked us round the Secret Campsite in East Sussex, told us about Hemlock and how it will kill you. Nice one God, leave a load of Hemlock lying around for us to play Russian roulette with. The truffle dogs are really cute also.
- Pack some practical boots or wellies. I rocked up in my trainers and was soaked through from minute one.
- When starting a fire don’t pick green wood from the trees. You can spot this kind of wood because they’re green, and on a tree.
It’s best to book a group courses which start about £160 a head for the day. Great for Stag Do’s or team bonding events. For extra imagery from the event I’ve posted some on our sister site City Tour Photography.

I fell in love with John Smedley at a recent press event and the PR guys/gals were kind enough to gift this beautiful Extra Fine Merino Wool Shawl.
It’s of course a brand that has been on my radar for sometime after Daniel Craig wears their Navy Peacoat in Skyfall. If you’re interested to know more about that I suggest you read one of the best blogs on the planet penned by the auto-didactic Matt Spaiser over the Suits of James Bond.
This John Smedley shawl is available for £100 and you can find out more about the collection and their in store collaborations when I met their CEO John Maclean last October.
I’d love to hear your comments on what you think of these products/brands/events below. What do you like most about Christmas? Are you a giver or a receiver? Get your mind out of the gutter will you! Thank you to all the brands that have comped me on this page, for all the samples and the products sent on for review purposes.
