ArcelorMittal Orbit London first date

The ArcelorMittal Orbit

If you’re coming to London and looking for an adventure day for a first date, I’d recommend a trip to Olympic Park and a #RideTheSlide experience down the ArcelorMittal Orbit.

It should be said that this was not a first date, I’ve been with my girlfriend for 2 years and we have enjoyed many many dates, some leading to consensual carnal activities.

It’s a shame the ArcelorMittal Orbit has got such a rubbish name.

For the life of me I’ll never spell it correctly or remember it, it’s like the Daryl Van Horn name in Witches of Eastwick.

The closest tube is Stratford underground, though we walked it from Bethnal Green which on a nice hot day, will take close to 45 minutes.

The closest tube station is Stratford underground that is still a fair trek.

Instead look at getting to the Stratford overground which is only a 15 minute walk.

The London Stadium is now West Ham’s ground, so if you’re visiting the park during the football season, best to check to the home game fixtures for The Hammers if you don’t want to share a train carriage with a load of drunk idiots.

Ok that’s the route sorted. Why should I take my date there?

The views from the top are awesome.

The slide is a lot of fun and you can also abseil from the top.

It’s worth the price £16.50 for an adult.

If you’re visiting during the school holidays you should look to book your ride online.

When we arrived we had to book a slot for later in the afternoon, which gave us a chance to walk around the park and have a few drinks.

You can also get some great photos, some in front of the concave mirrors that you can take together.

Make sure you bring her in for a hug whilst taking the picture but don’t touch her inappropriately. If she wants to touch you inappropriately then fantastic!

There’s also a chance to get this shot below from one of the viewing decks.

Walk around the deck and look for the signs that direct your mobile to a pin hole in the floor and place your camera lens appropriately.

It’s the worlds longest and tallest tunnel slide and they don’t allow you to take your phone or camera down the slide.

Leave your valuables in a locker downstairs, do the slide, then after return to the top to grab your pictures.

The walk down is very interesting as they have a speaker system every 20 steps or so, that plays the audio on a loop from the time the ArcelorMittal Orbit was built in 2012.

I imagine that would be cool in 50 years or so.

I’m afraid I can’t recommend a place to eat because we dined at the Cabana and the service was God awful.

They’re all smiles on the door to get you in, but once you’re in, they simply don’t give a damn about you.

Which is a shame because the Cabana in the 02 was brilliant.

If anyone else has any recommendations on places to eat around Olympic Park I’d be interested to know.

But if it’s a sunny day you can take a picnic and stretch out on the park, romantic, and more importantly, cheap.
