Looking to stay in a hotel near Hyde Park?

Are you a solo female traveller or business woman looking for a recognised safe destination in London?

The La Suite West hotel situated just off the edge of Hyde Park is a boutique hotel designed with  minimalist décor equipped with the latest technology to create a vibe that’s enticingly modern yet decidedly Zen.

Well so says the brochure. The missus and I were invited to spend an evening and a day at La Suite West to see if we could get our ‘Zen’ on.

The missus is a frequent high flyer so knowing that it’s close to Paddington where you can catch the train to Heathrow was a bonus for her. Furthermore, the hotel has also passed the stringent security inspection imposed by maiden-voyage.com, which include double-locking doors, 24×7 manned reception and ultimate discretion when discussing room numbers.

Inside La Suite West

The dining area is segmented with wood shutter partitions. Consistent with the sliding doors you’ll find in your room and bathing suite. For breakfast there’s a mix of cereal, avocado, eggs and fruits. Extra points dealt for having soya milk.

The rooms are two-toned, with a modern tech feel. Nice Ruark stereos preset to BBC R3, in keeping with the ambiance.  Someone thought that through, whoever it was I’d like to buy them a drink.

The TV comes through the foot of the bed via remote control, not only providing convenience but a wonderful partition if the missus is on the couch opposite harping on about the latest John Lewis advert.

The bathrooms are marble lined, off-white and grey fleck. The shower pressure is intense and for women there is an industrial strength hair dryer.

With businesswomen in mind, the hotel’s in-room spa service allows relaxation in the comfort of a suite bedroom. Guests can relax and unwind in the comfort of their room during their stay and treat themselves to in-room spa treatments and therapies including facials and massages. For those more active, personal training sessions are also available.

James Jude, General Manager, said “We’ve recently noticed that progressively more female guests were staying at the hotel and we wanted to be able to create a warm and welcoming atmosphere and to ensure they felt at home whilst staying with us. We are delighted to partner with Maiden Voyage and be understood as a hotel that recognises and caters for the needs of lone women travellers.”

Overall a very pleasant and relaxing stay.  La Suite West offers rooms from £129 per night. Bookings through hotel website www.lasuitewest.com. The restaurant wasn’t open in the evening we stayed but by coincidence, I have eaten at the Nosh Garden Kitchen restaurant before and would recommend it if they’re serving. Failing that we walked two minutes round the corner and ate at Little Persia, which I’d recommend highly. I’ve also been told Khans is good.

Bayswater is your closest tube on the Central Line. 2 minute walk from there.

Tip

Ask for the junior suite overlooking the high street. The room gets more natural light and has a better view.
